Firstly, we must clearly know the definition of homosexual. Homosexuals are basically human beings with a different sexual orientation from the majority. They are humans who are sexually inclined towards people of the same gender (sex).
Pertaining to the question, “Homosexuality. Is it a curse or a blessing? " . I have to say that there are many different views regarding this issue. However, I do strongly believe that homosexuality is not only merely a curse or a blessing, but actually it contains both of them.
From a homosexual’s point of view, it is definitely a blessing as they are finally accepted into the society. They are finally not looked upon as being abnormal and thus they can truly become their own self. They do not have to hide their true self anymore as their way of life is finally accepted and recognized. They can lead a perfect and complete life. Which is definitely a blessing indeed.
On the other hand, many people may feel that homosexuality is a definite "NO NO”. This is because they believe that: More homosexuals = lesser spouse for marriage= lesser babies= low birthrate. A low birthrate is adversely affecting many developed counties all over the world. A low birthrate means lesser talent influx into the country each year. A lack of talent will affect the economy of the country as there are not enough talented people available. When this happens the economy of the country will stop flourishing and it may even deteriorate.
Also, many tourists may be disgusted by the intimate actions between homosexuals. They may then think twice before coming to Singapore for example. This would affect the tourism industry in Singapore and thus overall affecting our economy. Thus leading to homosexuality being a curse.
Not only will tourist be disgusted by the homosexuals’ intimate actions, the citizens of Singapore have also responded their displeasures regarding homosexuality. An example would be the penal code 377A which drew over 15 thousands people who supported the keeping of the law . This shows that there is still a majority of Singaporeans who actually oppose homosexuality. If homosexuality is allowed in Singapore for example, many people will be unhappy and this might lead to quarrels, arguments, or even riots which may cause unrest in Singapore. If this really happens, Singapore's economy may be hit badly.
Also, it is shown that homosexuality is one of the main causes of the surging rise in STDs and HIVs. This is because homosexuals’ behaviors contributed greatly to it. This infected people might spread their illness to their partners and many more people might also get STD or HIV. It is also shown that homosexuals tend to change partners more frequently as compared to heterosexuals. Thus they may be more dangerous.
In conclusion, I really think that the homosexuality is a curse as the points supporting homosexuality as a curse far outweighs those of it being a blessing. As there are just too many problems caused by homosexuals and it is indeed very difficult for us to not say that it is a curse. Therefore I really feel that the penal code 377A should be retained as it will benefit the majority of Singaporeans and also to uphold our image as a "clean" country. However I do also believe that different people have different views regarding this issue and it is definitely up to them to judge what they think is right and what is wrong. To finish off, i do still believe that homosexuality is still more of a curse than blessing.
