My stand on this is that, singles are unhappy. However, there are exceptions to the issue.
Many singles find themselves single due to many reasons. One of it is the outward appearance of the person. In modern society, we can observe that looks comes into play almost in our daily life. Be it we're in school or at work, we often question ourselves whether we look presentable. Singles, often find themselves without a partner due to their "outward appearance". Others may find the person "ugly" in the sense that they are too irksome to be with. I disagree with this statement. I believe that people should look more of the "inward appearance". Qualities such as diligence, leadership and so on can never be found on the "outward appearance". Also, singles often find themselves splurging money to make themselves look better. While they are financially able, they would not feel the pinch. Should they retire with little savings, they would be thinking back on the things they did.
Singles might be unhappy that they themselves are unable to find a partner. Again, it boils down to looks. Many people are just not contented with the looks of their partners-to-be. Apart from that, many women often face men who only desire for sex. Therefore, it may result in fear of going through the dating process. Singles are often do not find their lifelong partner due to differing views. Taken from a webpage, both women and men find that personalities and a sense of humour are important. Men also do place a large emphasis on physical attractiveness and sexual satisfaction. I believe the above reasons are why both men and women remain single.
There are certainly benefits to being single. It allows one to have absolute independence and freedom. I believe that this is the most important reason why singles, well, remain single. They would not be tied down by children and family arguments. They would be able to have to fend for themselves in luxury compared to having kids. Singles would have the choices in the flats they stay, the food they eat, the places they travel and the entertainment they indulge in. Of course, they should be reminded to keep some savings for use on rainy days.
Thus, I would conclude that singles are generally unhappy.
