~§inglehood~

To start off, singles are defined as the state of being unmarried and unhappiness as the feeling of dejection, depression or gloom.

It would be unwise to consider all singles to be unhappy. There are many factors to consider when this statement is mentioned. However, I will only touch on a few factors to avoid a very lengthy essay.

First and foremost, single’s may not necessarily suffer from loneliness leading to unhappiness. Yes, it is be true that at times they may feel dejected. However, this is a common and normal emotion that is experienced by everyone and not just singles. Loneliness comes from being alone, not from being single. As a matter of fact, people in relationships experience loneliness as often as anyone else. The very definition of this word according to Webster's dictionary is, "cut off from others, sad from being alone, a feeling of desolateness. Furthermore, there are really many solutions and ways to curb or alleviate the problem. One of these methods is to have well-bonded relationships with families and friends. Having a close circle of friends will firstly, provide companionship as they can mingle and hang out with each other. Secondly, in times of need, there will be reliable friends to encourage and support each other. Moreover, a strongly bonded family will also give moral and emotional support. Therefore, I disagree that all singles are unhappy.

Moving on to my second point, singles get to enjoy independence in both financial and personal aspects. For financial independence, singles have no dependencies on anyone; they have no need to support anyone else (excluding parents) but themselves. In this manner, they get to manage their own finances freely. Over to personal independence, the individual has almost complete control over their own lives. They do not need someone to tell them how and what to do. As such, singles could be said to have more freedom over their lives. Having the freedom and ability to do what they want, it is unlikely that they would be unhappy over their freedom. Thus, it is not always true that singles are unhappy.

In conclusion, I believe that in the end, whether singles are happy or not depends on the each individual’s character.
